This is a fun trip, for Race & Case Competition, I come to Denver & Vail, Colorado with another 5 Americans from Katz. If it would not for this, my February would not have been that CRAZY- working around the clock, sleeping 7 hours or less in the 2 weeks before going to Denver for Valuation, Procurement, Six Sigma project, marketing research, plus creativity assignment!!! However, it was totally worth it!! We came to Denver yesterday, having an authentic Mexican food (I got shrimp quesadilla), preparing presentation for 6 hours. After that, we went to a bar drinking and feeding ourselves. I found a new beer I really like it named “sider”, and also an interesting, thick beer named “car bump.” This day, I just didn’t feel like to drink. One was totally enough. Today we went to Denver University to present. Damon got a number 1 which would say we are gonna win. Our presentation went pretty well and everybody was happy.
After we knew we are gonna present first, we ask our ambassador Mike where we could have a drink at 10 AM!! He is a nice guy with mustache even took us to buy Croors for us to drink on the way to Vail.
*Lemmon shot (Volga), *Tequila shot, *Croos light*1, *Gin tonic, *screw driver (These were what I had on the second day. )
Saturday is another exciting day for us. Race also accounts for 20% of the total score. We got our ski equipment in Marriot yesterday so we went to the lift directly after a wonderful Marriot buffet breakfast. It was so cool. The mountain is so big and gorgeous!! Everybody was excited about exploring the mountain (part of rocky mountain). In the first half of second run, I was trying black diamond and conquered it with just one falling down. In the second half of the second run, I went down so fast but suddenly, falling down with my left ski fell off. SHIT!! I can’t move my left leg and suddenly I knew that MY SKI SEASON is over!!! Ski patrol took me down directly to the ER. However, I refused to go to ER because that could cost me several hundred dollars. I was transferred to the clinic beside and wait for treatment. At that moment, by myself without money and having no idea what happened to my leg, I felt so sad and stupid that I could not even watch them racing down. I called Jimmy but crying when I heart his voice. And then the rest of time I was transferred from mountain to hospital, to hospital to hotel. No hot tub made me feel sad again when they were back from mountain.
In the evening I attended the dinner party with my crutches. It was a so important moment that we would know the place we got in the Race and Case competition. I suddenly became a focus in the spot and lots of people came show their greetings because of my crutches. To tell the truth, after I got back to the hotel, I’m not worried too much. I feel this would happen just as in our lives, a person has to take an overnight flight, sleeping in an airport, loss his/her luggage when transferring flight…. In the states, things are just like that.
The holder announced the first 3 places of girl and boy ski competition. Jay and Damon was the third and the first place among all guys, and Damon got the second new pair of ski from Denver University as a reward. (He was also the fastest skier in R&C last year). We were getting more and more excited. Here comes the moment!!!!! We ended up got 2 place in race, first place in case and first place in overall Case & Race!!! Everybody was so crazy about this although we knew we would be there.
Later on was just a series of picturing, socializing and drinking….
I went out the hotel with everybody with my crutches and hopping to the stairs at times just for celebrating.
1 white wine, 2 Gin tonic, 1 cranberry vodka + a beer were what I had. I’ve never had that much in such short period of time. Damon was totally not conscious and Jay was so hiper, talking and carrying me to stairs once. My first bar crew happened in Vail- tipsy came with hangover afterwards in the next morning. Everything was worth it. I love my team and it was a lot of fun this time!!!

What I showed staff:
ReplyDeleteIn the University of Denver, when Damon received a drawing sheet showing "the first team to present", we believed it was a good omen. We were happy for ourselves after presentation and believed we did a good job.
Before going to Denver on 24 February, we devoted at least an hour a day to the preparation after the competition topic released on 4 February. I still remember these 20 days were such long days for me, working around the clock among my 6 courses and the competition preparation. But I knew it's going to pay off!
I'm also glad to join such a wonderful team. Jean and Damon who were captions shared us a lot of valued experience from last-year competition. John with bio-engineering background, Lindsey who is good at marketing research, and Sujay who was in charge of financial analysis contributed to the team. Team members are down to earth with complementary backgrounds and were all willing to devote time to the preparation. We were patient in every meeting to figure out our strategy and the best way to present and continued modifying our presentation after presenting to undergraduate ethical class and peers to make it better and better.
The other thing made me happy was Damon and John were in the first and third places in male ski race. We definitely enjoyed the journey of the competition. It was a great learning experience and this was one of my best Katz experiences!
